I work as a server at a Sonic drive in. I definitely have a lot of bad days and I have mostly overcome my stutter since it first stared 13 years ago when I was just 9. I still have trouble with any "th" works and many others. Most times when I stutter I just stop what I'm trying to say and slow down, talk in phrases. But of course it doesn't always work. There are people who feel uncomfortable when I started blocking or fumbling over my words and they laugh uncomfortably or even get annoyed when I can't tell them their total is at $13.33. It can be real frustrating but once people get to know you it gets easier to talk to them and I've made friends with most of my customers and I rarely have a bad stutter with them. Its the ones I rarely see or have never seen before that cause my stutter problems. It's never going to go away but I read this awesome book once that changed my life, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested. Its called, "Out with It." Just to name a few things, the author talks about stutterers who work in very stressful jobs like paramedics and emergency dispatchers and even war hero's. It was this book that helped me overcome the fear of my stutter and take a job where is he talking all day to strangers. That alone has greatly improved my stutter and I can now usually get through most of an order with little to no notice of my stutter. Don't let these bad days get you down. You may never see the day your stutter goes away but it will change your life for the better as it has mine. Thank you for posting this, I have been have a tough time with a lot going on my life and your post has brought back so many good thoughts and frankly helped me forget about everything bad going on right now. Even if just for a short time. Sorry about the long post and please enjoy the rest of your week.
