I am the same. I think its because when around family and close friends, i know they'll love and support me and wont judge me because they understand. But with "friends" or co workers, servers ect, theres heightened risk of emotional harm/judgement, and to avoid that we try extra hard to be precise in our language, and are more conscious about what we're saying.
