Working with PWS actually helped quite a bit with my own fluency by forcing me to practice what I preach more. That and increased fluency with my “therapist voice” when talking with children, it would be wrong for me to say SLPs who stutter do NOT get discriminated, but I haven’t been myself. Clients and caregivers usually aren’t in the attacking mindset when meeting with a professional. I really and truly think that stuttering helped my career as an SLP. You’ll be able to bond and understand your clients so much more than the typical articulation and expressive language expert that would normally be working with them. Kids will love working with someone who understands them, and parents will love having someone who understands their kids. Everyone is happy!
