Its pretty nerve wracking for everyone when you first do it. Patients will naturally be relaxed and have their arm in an L shape I ask the patient to lock their arm ( i shape) because when arm is straight its easier to see the vein. The secret is you need to be able to feel the vein with your finger rather then eye sight alone. I am sure they will train you. :)
