Did speech therapy help you to communicate?

Did speech therapy help you to communicate? I’ve recently started dating someone with a very severe stutter. It doesn’t bother me or change the way I see him or the time we spend together, but I know that it really bothers him and that does upset me. He really struggles with his mental health and he gets so depressed when he can’t communicate and he perceives it as holding him back in life and his career. I’ve known quite a few people who’ve felt significant improvement with different issues from speech therapy (including my nephew and my cousin), but I know it doesn’t work for everyone, even less for adults, and it must be mentally and emotionally exhausting to attempt. He’s been interested in trying because he never has, and he’s had his stutter his whole life. He was always too scared to confront it apparently, but now he feels he has to. Through his work he was approached by a speech pathologist recently who said she could help him, and is trying to decide if he has the time to dedicate to pursuing it. I just want things to be easier for him, has anyone found speech therapy helpful as an adult? I apologise if any of this comes off offensive or ignorant, it’s not intended that way. Thank you.
