I'd say it's not uncommon to find stutterers talking fast. It a secondary behaviour that gets developed by trying to get out as much words as you can before you block. Before long, it becomes a habit and you don't even remember why you're doing it or even aware that you're doing it. I don't even think people do it consciously at first, it just out of fear of blocking.
