What's your opinion on the most recent Peter Dinklage comment? For those not in the loop, the game of thrones actor who played Tyrion Lannister criticized Disney for making a "Snow white and the 7 dwarves movie". He said: “You’re progressive in one way but you’re still making that fucking backward story of seven dwarves living in the cave. What the fuck are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough." https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2022/jan/25/peter-dinklage-disney-remake-snow-white-and-the-seven-dwarfs As a long time stutterer, I can very much sympathize with him, I have issues finding well written characters who stutter in movies or TV shows. At best, it's some shy kid afraid of doing anything, at worst, it's just a nobody used to make the audience laugh at. My last experience watching a movie with a stuterrer in a theatre was "IT: chapter 2". The film itself was forgettable, but I still remember the teenage girl sitting in front of me being annoyed at the character, shouting "Just finish your sentence already" and laughing. There is still a long way to go before having a well written character who happens to stutter. Having said that, I can only understand Dinklage's comment, since I have the same issues with media representation for stutterers. He played one of the most badass and smart characters in one of the most popular show in the world, it makes you forget that he is actually a dwarf. I'm sure he contributed in changing the public's perception in what dwarfism is. Yet, Disney is planning to release a new movie used to make fun of dwarves. What do you think about Peter Dinklage's comment? And What's your opinion about media representation for stutterers ?
