Oh lordy, that's a conversation all by itself! Long story short, I stuttered *terribly* when I went through my initial Private Pilot training in school back in 2003. The entire concept of having to talk on the airplane radios (even in a tired C-150) was crazy intimidating, and I don't think I was even able to begin *attempting* it until a full month and a half into my training. Over time it got easier, though! One thing that's a huge help for me is that the phraseology for radio comms in aviation is really standardized. As you gain more experience you realize that the radio calls themselves never really change, but specific bits of them do: things like headings, altitudes, and speeds. Everything else stays largely the same. Once you get in the IFR or instrument flying environment, and especially in the airlines, everything becomes even more "routine" with radio comms. These days I honestly don't even think about them much. Which is saying something, because 19 years ago they legit terrified me. At the airlines you're also going to be expected to give passenger announcements (PAs) either as a first officer or a captain. But again, they're so standardized that after awhile they lose their intimidation factor and become routine. Only bits here and there change from flight to flight: destination airports, outside temps, altitudes, etc. I don't really think about those either nowadays. And as a captain I have to make the "Welcome Aboard" announcement before every flight and that, too, is just something to do. I'll occasionally stumble upon a word or two sometimes but the speech tools I've learned in speech therapy smooth/blend those out to where passengers don't even notice or hear it. I'd say if you've got ANY interest in aviation at all, go after it. Don't let your stutter dictate what you *think* you can or can't do in life. And 16 is a great age to get started with flying! Have you done an intro ride yet? I got bit by the flying bug at about that same age, too. If I had to do it all over again I would've started speech therapy much earlier in life rather than recently at age 37 but live and learn! Good luck to you!
