Eeeeeeeee (softly, gently prolonging my first syllable) as I ease into what I want to s-s-say (fake stutter, so I can stop trying to NOT stutter). It’s all a lie. Stuttering really does NOT prevent you from doing anything. Get even better at what you’re good at. Improve all of the good things about you. The stuttering is actually only a minor flaw. All the rest of us, whether we stutter or not, we’re all flawed. What’s more important are the good things about us. Yes, get speech therapy from somebody who mostly treats stutterers (most speech therapists treat very few stutterers). If your stuttering isn’t much improved within about 10-12 sessions, try another therapist. You may need a medication to help your anxiety or depression if that’s added on. Despite that some people never heard somebody stutter and don’t know what’s happening with your speech, and even if they’re afraid for you or of you, it’s actually not a big deal if you handle it right. Tell them, “I stutter.” That calms them down. (Really) Read all the comments on stuttering. Many can be helpful for at least some of us.
