I wrote a Stuttering Manifesto (kind of) I had a moment of clarity the other day and wanted to get my thoughts down on paper before I lost it all. Upon rereading I wondered if someone else might benefit from seeing it, so I've decided to post it here. I use religious language in this, so if that's not your thing, be warned. Stuttering Manifesto I, ___, am a child of God, and as such am loved despite AND because of my faults, skills, and actions. Because of that unfailing, unwavering love, I am able to do a great many things. I, ___, also have a speech impediment which can make some activities more difficult than they might be otherwise. However, there is nothing that I cannot do because of my stutter. Stuttering less may make some things easier for me, but it would not make me more worthy. EVERYTHING I COULD DO FLUENTLY I CAN ALSO DO STUTTERING. There is no escaping that fact, and I will not stand for my own mind telling me otherwise. I can choose to let my stutter impede what I do, but it will always be that: a choice. I choose to be brave. I choose to boast in my weakness, so that others may take hope in seeing God work in someone as deeply flawed as me. I choose to move forward even when I am scared of what lies ahead. I choose to put desire to serve Christ and proclaim his Gospel with my life above all else. My desires will forever be secondary to Christ’s. I choose a life that I will not regret when I am old. I choose a life that is exciting and fulfilling to live while I am young. I choose a life that is lived for others.
