Dr Martin Schwartz of NYC explained that some people tense their shoulders when they are stressed out. Stutterers, for whatever reason, learn early on to tense their larynx and surrounding area when their stress hits a stuttering threshold. For me, the road to controlling my stuttering is to keep my stress under control. I do this by diet, good sleep, exercise, meditation, and just being a low-drama person. Can people “cure” stuttering? I think it can certainly appear that way if you live in low-stress or perhaps more impressively, learn to subconsciously tense another muscle group than your throat. I doubt there will ever be a cure-all way to end stuttering and certainly not an overnight cure.
