Studying medical school with a stutter

Studying medical school with a stutter Hi. I'm 21 years old and have been stuttering all my life. Most of the time I have done a good job of hiding it, mostly by changing out words and rearranging my sentences so I don't stutter. I am currently studying at med school, and I wish to become a doctor. The problem is that fast and effective communication is vital as a doctor, and this is where I struggle. Most of you probably know that the more complex the dialogue, the more you stutter. When I try to explain different diseases or medical expressions to myself or my classmates, my stutter gets worse. A couple of weeks ago I had to interview a patient, and I stuttered really badly, and it was hard to express myself in a professional manner. I have been hoping all this time that the stutter would dissappear by itself by now, but it hasn't. I have just started my third year, so we haven't really focused on communication and talking to patients, it has been mostly theoretical subjects, but that's about to change. Communication and talking to patient is the main focus this semester. And I am terrified. What should I do? Maybe I should accept the fact that being a doctor is not something for me, a stutterer? Maybe I should take one year off, and really try to fix the problem by seeing a speech therapist?
