As a child no one cared about my stammer, every one just thought I was very shy and anxious and would eventually grow out of and failed to recognise I needed therapy early in my life. Even though one google search would clarify you can’t just out grow it and I needed therapy no one did anything. I did have a few encouraging teachers over the years tho who helped with my confidence and would handle speeches and such in kind ways, privately reading it with me or letting me only speak to them when I would have to give a speech. Some would ask me fewer questions in front of the class etc. However it’s a completely different experience when people don’t know you have a stutter, I once had a new teacher shout at and argue with me to get me to read however my selective mutism took place and I could not, awful first day back to school :/ also when I don’t speak much, being considered conventionally attractive, I come across as rude and uptight, however a boy with glasses won’t speak and he’d just be viewed as shy and socially anxious/ awkward. My quietness was taken out of context by most and people don’t like quiet people.
