I recommend looking into the PROMPT method.My son had EI as well, and then special education preschool where he was getting speech. He didn't say any words, except for daddy, until 3 months after his 3rd birthday. Shortly after he started private speech therapy with PROMPT. I don't know if it was coincidence but then he had a speech explosion (relatively speaking). Things are progressing slowly and he doesn't really initiate conversation and still talks gibberish at times, but we are to the point if we give him a choice and say the words, he can repeat back to us and says what he wants. It makes communicating a whole lot easier!
