What would the rage do? Was I gonna be one of those people that tries to crawl through the little window and fight the staff? It just made me resolve to keep doing it. Another similar story but with a different twist - I went to law school and was pretty tight with everyone that worked there. I chatted up the guards, janitors, etc. Well one day the guy at the cafeteria was out and the new person heard me stutter as I ordered and laughed and shook his head and said “damn, man, why are you here?” I just smiled and said “to get some food” but another worker came over and apologized. I didn’t think anything of it until the next week the regular guy came back, apologized for the other guy and said they fired him for that. I thanked the guy for getting my back but inside I didn’t feel like I won some great victory. I’d spent a year out of work before and wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
