We’ll I shouldn’t have said “avoid”, but rather to become aware of them and work on not fear them. So we identify the sounds that caused the most blocks, which for me were the plosives. Then we would practice saying those words and stuttering in front of the therapist. We also did a bunch of relaxation exercises, including morning routines which were meant to help you start off the day as calm as possible. I also kept a journal about situations which caused the most problems. For me, it was mostly authority figures and women (I’m a hetero man). And I would keep entries about how the encounters went to discuss with the therapist.
