The severity of it decreasing is an amazing feat. I'm very happy for you. Literature I've read about stuttering always says gravitate towards overt stuttering for results exactly like what you're saying. But there is a difference. When I find myself about to stutter, I go into code red. I never said stuttering wasn't stuttering. I just said the way the person goes about it and handles it is different. And the OP was saying he had a lot of avoidance behaviors... I work in a professional environment. I often can't word replace some of the technical words required. So what happens? I stutter overtly. I have no choice.
