I would highly recommend reading Redefining Stuttering by John Harrison! It really goes in depth to the mind of someone that stutters. You can find a free link to the book if you google search it. And do dang everything you can to build your self esteem. If you slouch with your posture, well then it’s time to stand up tall and never slouch again. If you break eye contact when you speak with people, we’ll it’s time to start looking people in the eyes. If you speak quietly without power, well then it’s time to put some confidence behind your own ideas and opinions. I would also really recommend the Dave McGuire Program. They have an inexpensive self-help book on Amazon called Beyond Stammering: The McGuire Program for getting good at the Sport of Speaking.” It’s a wholistic program that provides a breathing technique, psychological reasons for stuttering, etc. The program requires courage but use the people around you for support. And you gotta be like Sherlock Holmes; always looking for the deeper reasons and clues of why you stutter. Take notes on your own life so you know yourself well. Also, I once heard a women on this subreddit say she got a job stocking shelves at Walmart because it was fairly easy to get hired. She would practice talking with customers. She eventually worked her way up to be a door greeter, and now her stuttering has become totally manageable. So it’s about starting small and working up, something I’ve been trying to incorporate on my own journey. Maybe it starts with waving and smiling at strangers, as you begin to step into your more expressive self.
