I’d guess you have a covert stutter, where you have more blocks than repetitions? You probably avoid/switch words to get through a block? Saying your name and other unavoidable words are *noticeably* difficult and stressful? I’d bet your colleagues don’t realize your awkward pauses are directly connected to your stutter? Thing is, every speaker has occasional repetitions. Difference is we have lots more, and some of us have significant fear of others hearing the repetitions. I’d bet your colleagues say thinking it will comfort you somehow, but it understandably causes you distress. What you can do is learn more about your situation and educate others. The fact is that educating others can be a magical way to decrease your blocks. Try it…I bet as soon as you start speaking about your stutter, it will instantly start being less impactful.
