I say 'Ma'am, present' or 'Yes, ma'am' instead of 'present, ma'am'. I really can't say the traditional present first cuz it doesn't come outta my mouth, and by the time it comes, my roll call would've been skipped. Also, I made a technique that comes handy a few times: when you get to know that your professor is taking attendance, start engaging in something new or trick your brain into believing that you're focused on your phone and eventually forget attendance, and when your professor calls out your name, you'll actually be able to speak that as it will be spontaneous and unexpected.
