I signed for a thing (free food gets me all the time) and it ended up being a telephone thing! So I got an email from my school offering free dinner and an opportunity to thank donors. They had me at **free dinner**. I thought I'd would have to go, mingle with rich donors, get some primo food and then bounce. Imagine my surprise when I got there, dressed to the nines, and was handed a list of 50 numbers to call and thank for their contribution!!! But guess who "sucked it up buttercup" and did it anyway? Yours truly!!!! It was in the evening so most people answered their phones, I would say like 60% picked up. I had a script so I didn't have to wing anything. Also I personally new like 10% of the people I called so that broke the tension in another way. I was also doing it with 3 of my colleagues/students. After I made my 50 calls from 5 pm until 8 pm. One of the people who said they would come didn't so I helped do another list of calls divied up among the 4 of us. It came to 15 extra phone calls for total of 65 phone calls in 3.5 hours.. Surprisingly, I had so much fun. My speech was pretty damn near perfect and I really enjoyed the whole experience after the first few calls. I felt like a therapy dog, just calling people and getting petted haha. I volunteered to do it again next spring. I guess I wanted to share my win with y'all... the Fluency God is Back... Now to make the necessary sacrifices to make Her stay.
