1. This is blatant misinformation and an OPINION. There is quite a bit of research on stuttering. We have a lot more now than we ever did and a great deal of success in treating stuttering through use of speech therapists that are trained appropriately. The best researchers and speech therapists for stuttering are PEOPLE who stutter themselves. Those valuable insights combined with evidenced based research and practice has literally changed stuttering therapy in the past 5-years. It is a beautiful thing. 2. What about the blocks that happen mid word? OVERT stuttering is letting your blocks, repetitions, and prolongations be heard. COVERT is when the PWS employs avoidance strategies to hide their stutter. Additionally we have research showing that accepting one’s stutter DECREASES the severity of the stuttering. Do not confuse “acceptance” with “giving up”. It is a crucial piece to successfully treating stuttering.
