in my old job part of my working day sometimes involved phoning up customers about their bicycles, it was a complex task at the best of times and one which i would have to psych myself up for. most people would realise in the first ten seconds i had a stutter, but, this one guy just didn't get it and asked me to hang on while he had to "change rooms as the reception kept cutting out". after the third room change i had to stop him and (actually not stuttering) said; "Sir, there's nothing wrong with your reception. I just can't talk properly" Deadly silence on the other end of the phone. then we carried on like nothing ever happened i look back at this moment with fondness because it is quite funny, and i would prefer to think about this moment rather than the times i've had the phone just put down on me.
