Have you ever given up talking for a while, after it just got too hard? Hey all. I'm new here, I'm turning 39 next month, and I've had a stutter since age 3 or 4. In the most prevalent stuttering paradigm, you would call it blocking, but sometimes there's also repetition. I'm pretty sure it's tied to my anxiety, which I have clinically, in addition to depression, but my speech has been especially bad lately, especially so at work. Pretty much, the less comfortable I feel around whomever, the more anxiety I have, the more I'll stutter. It's also at its worst when I first meet someone, unless the ice somehow gets broken rather quick. Anyway, I'm tired of talking, tired of stuttering, and my mouth just needs a break. Work is almost over for the day, and I wrote a note to my coworker that I'm not going to talk anymore this day if I don't have to. I just handed out an order (this is a pizza place) to a customer without talking. Has anyone else ever tried this? Has it worked for you, once you finally let yourself talk again?
