I accepted what I had at around 16 and decided I was just gonna play the cards. Threw myself to the wolves with my first job and it helped me tremendously in practically applying the things I learned in therapy. I can now (mostly) hold conversations. I’m also functionally fluent in Spanish but I have not yet developed proper strategies to have it be on par with my native English. I can and will stop sometimes but I’ve learned to just get up and I live a pretty normal life. I won’t forget the nightmare I went through growing up but I feel as though that’s made me in a much more patient, empathetic, and understanding person and that’s not something that’s incredibly easy to come by.
