Stuttering and work question.. Hey everyone, I frequent this sub under my usual name (life long stutterer - mostly controlled but still somewhat obvious) but I wanted to exercise some discretion for this.. I'm a software engineer at a large technical company, and i was recently promoted to being a tech lead/manager on my team. To cut to the chase - I think one of my subordinates may stutter as well, he's also Chinese. I say 'think' because I don't know it for a fact and I haven't been certain if the language difference was a little bit of a factor. I studied Spanish in high school (was alright) and I know that stuttering definitely made it harder - less mental band width to focus and translate... He's doing alright, I wouldn't say anything negative as he is still relatively green though I've wondered a few times if communication has been a bit of an impediment in his professional growth. I've only ever treated him the way that I had hoped others would listen and talk to me, though I've wondered if I should make an effort to reach out to him.. but I'm not sure how well I might have received someone reaching out to me when i was younger and frustrated with stuttering. I just wanted to reach out for others feedback from experience, any knowledge of stuttering in chinese culture or.. I'm not sure.. Thanks for listening. bwt - posting from work so it's brief, but to be clear I don't want him to feel singled out or embarrassed - so I carry these thoughts very carefully.
