Hello! I've enjoyed reading your post. I am a 24-year-old woman who has stuttered for all of my talking life (since age 2 or so). It makes a lot of sense that you say anti-stuttering/fluency techniques work because they are novel, but are less effective when used all the time. I received speech therapy for most of grade school and a couple years of college. I had a variety of therapists from those who preached anti-stuttering to those who encouraged confident communicating regardless of fluency. I stopped therapy because techniques weren't working anymore, which may be because I had just gotten over the work it took to use them. I am now in grad school and my speech has gotten more disfluent over the past couple years. As you can tell by my presence in this community, I am now considering medication to help the anxiety associated with my speech. Anyway, just felt like sharing that because your comment gave me some new information. Thanks!
