I think because society only associates disability with physical disability. When customers come up to me and I start stuttering, their first thought is probably that I’m just tripping up on my words. It bothers me a bit when someone makes fun of my stutter but the whole ‘oh I have one too’ really bothers me. We’re not stupid, we know that you wouldn’t laugh if you actually suffered with the same thing.
