At a previous job I was hired to build a team of software developers and the first guy I brought on board (who was trying to land this $80k a year job back in 2000) I liked and he was really smart. I took him around to introduce him to the others in the IT department. There was one employee whose name began with a P, both first and last names. I do not do well with the letter P. I stuttered introducing him, “This is P-P-Patty”. He went to shake hands with her and said “Nice to meet you P-P-Patty”. Back in my office I addressed it straight up and asked him if he always made fun of people with handicaps. I hired him and he was a loyal and hardworking employee for five years, my right hand man so to speak.
