Honestly, it never bothered me until someone I was close to finally started pointing it out when people were uncomfortable but too polite to say anything. And ever since then I've been noticing that it does make people uncomfortable, and I completely understand why: it's unusual and unfamiliar. Now I've come to the point where I want to be rid of it for good. She's been encouraging me along that path and I actually appreciate it, because it's a decision I came to on my own before it ever came up with her.
