I'm considering learning ASL and just tell people I am hearing impaired

I'm considering learning ASL and just tell people I am hearing impaired I suppose this is more of a rant than anything but I won't lie and say that it hasn't crossed my mind on multiple occasions. It just seems so much easier to communicate with my hands than trying to get words out. At least with signing I would be fluent.
