Italian is my first language. However I moved to London at 19 and I spent most of my adult life speaking English especially my mid to late 20s when I started working and broke up with my Italian boyfriend with whom I would speak on a daily basis in Italian. As a result I now speak more English than Italian as Italian is limited to my friends and family back home and I do not speak aloud to them as much as I do with my colleagues in English everyday of the week. I think this is the reason why I stutter in Italian more than I do in English. Because I speak more English, my mind also has more examples of me speaking fluently in English, which allows me to speak more fluently in English overall compared to Italian, even though I stutter in English too, with different intensity and in different situations. However I stutter a lot more in Italian because I do not speak Italian much on a daily basis. This is despite I speak with friends and family in Italian, so I did not consider these pressure situations.
