4 Year Old stutter 4 Year Old Stutter TLDR: how likely is it to outgrow what seems like a significant disfluency/stutter? My son began stuttering shortly after entering preschool this fall. Since then, it’s gotten progressively worse. From infrequent to very frequent. He has awareness of the stutter, and currently is using a lot of filler words “um, um, um, um, like” before most sentences. (Though the repetitions of words themselves have stopped). He has been receiving speech therapy services for the last month. I know all situations are different, but I am wondering if anyone has been through a similar situation and what the outcome was… basically: is it possible for my child to outgrow the stutter? Our SLP has said it’s too early to tell, and treatment would be the same regardless. I am simply interested in hearing from people who have been through this before what your experience was (or is).
