Thanks for the response! I am right with you. My biggest fear when it comes to stuttering is arguing with someone other than my mom and brother. I’m afraid that the other person will continue to put more and more pressure on me until I become stressed and start blocking. In the future I would like to join a debate club to learn logical fallacies and learn how to stay calm under pressure. As far is fearing it be exposed, I think the best thing to do is tell other people that we stutter, then put your focus back on to enjoying what they are saying so you aren’t worried about yourself. It’s difficult but normalizing talking about our stuttering with others helps. Public speaking I think can be easier than debating because it’s one-way communication, so we decide the pace of our presentation. I would recommend “Redefining Stuttering” by John Harrison. It discusses speaking spontaneously, so not second guessing.
