Speech therapy requires practicing on your own. I often make the analogy of someone who takes piano lessons. If you don't practice daily, you are never going to learn to play the piano fluently. Speech therapy without dedication to practicing your skills is a waste of your time. I've done it both ways. In my teens I showed up to speech therapy every week, but put in minimal effort to practicing outside of speech therapy. Result? Years of speech therapy without much improvement. Fast forward 10 years. I decide to go back to speech therapy. Same therapist. I go through the same speech therapy program. Difference being is that I work at my fluency everyday. I practice for 15 or 20 minutes twice a day. I begin practicing in the car on my drive to and from work. The same speech therapy program, under the same therapist, and I was able to become fluent in just over 6 months.
