If it’s first round interview at bigger company it’s probably going to be an HR representative or someone from recruiting (versus the actual hiring manager which is usually after this initial convo). The key here is to focus on the company purpose and mission statement and making the connection to why YOU are interested in the opportunity as well as would be a good fit/contribute to the culture. So do your homework!!!! Read the company website and mission statement type info (annual 10k will also have qualitative stuff like that in the beginning section), look at latest articles written about the company or featuring CEO, research the ceo (if they’ve written a book or white paper recent i would read it or skim if you can to get a few sound bites you can weave into convo if needed), know what the company stock price is the day of (probably more important when meeting with hiring manager…but be prepared for this question), read analyst reports and what people are saying about the company financial performance and any relevant macro trends.
