yeah, i hear ya, i had a very similar experience in college. i remember my roommate during my 1st year making fun of me "behind my back" (even though i could hear it from time to time), it really highlighted his general level of insecurity. it's definitely a difficult experience to go out of your comfort zone. i guess the only thing i would say is, having graduated from college roughly 8 years ago, i don't think of the stuttering too much but more about the fun time i had with new friends and acquaintances. keep putting yourself out there -- i am always amazed at the general sense of warmth, compassion, and friendship that you will find as you meet people in college. sure, you'll meet some jerks, but i bet you'll meet a lot of people that don't really care that much if you block on your name. it's funny, i just started a new job, and i am reminded of this fear of "revealing the stutter" to strangers. overall though, people err on the side of warmth and attempting to understand.
