Why is stuttering not taken seriously?

Why is stuttering not taken seriously? I had a really bad stutter since I was a kid and still have it till now. I keep searching every once in a while and can’t find anything useful. I can’t actually imagine the amount of doctors and researchers around the world that can’t find the real reason or cause of stuttering.
