I am a 44 year old guy that has stuttered all my life. Nowadays it doesn’t bother me, and I don’t feel that it negatively impacts my life, but when I was younger it caused me a great deal of shame, embarrassment, and pain. I was very insecure and couldn’t believe that any girl would ever want to be with me because of my stutter. I went to great lengths to conceal it, to the point that people thought that I was a jerk because I wouldn’t really talk to anyone. Later in life I found that most people didn’t really care about my stutter, and some people were actually attracted to me because of my stutter. It made me different and unique. The things that make us different and unique are the things that make us beautiful. Further, things that are different and unique are what makes the world beautiful. I know it’s cliché, but if some guy has a problem with your stutter, that reveals him to be a superficial person, and who has time for superficial people? You don’t need him. On the other hand, he might not care, and he might even think it is an endearing trait, and like you even more for it. In this case, you might have found someone truly special! Your stutter is not who you are, it is just one small part of you. Any sensitive caring person will be able to see past your stutter to the person you really are.
