I have found that many people become uncomfortable when they encounter a stutterer. I used to be very self-conscious about their discomfort. Later, I learned to apply humor when I saw their discomfort. It usually dispelled their (and my) discomfort. Imagine that...the stutterer comforting those uncomfortable with stuttering :-)
