I'm in a similar situation. I live in Egypt and I go to one of the shittiest universities in the world. Anyway, in order to increase my network, improve my soft skills, fill my CV with some shit, blah blah blah, I have applied to volunteer in 10 different student organizations such as Enactus, IEEE student branch, AEISIC (Google them) in the last 6 months, and I got rejected by all of them. It feels so bad. People don't want me as a volunteer, then how the fuck someone will want to me to work for him. On the bright side, I'm now less nervous in interviews (less stutter), and my communication and presentation skills improved (some of them asked me to present). Don't be discouraged. Maybe there are other clubs you can apply to that doesn't include presentation as a part of the recruitment process.
