Stuttering and speech impediment are two very different but related concepts. A person can stutter without a speech impediment. For example, if a person goes on stage and is unable to properly speak due to nervousness, they are stuttering. This is psychological. Speech impediment is defined as individuals who persistently stutter and may have other related disorders such as facial twitch, blocks, etc.
