While stuttering itself can feel horrible, I can talk about it with no embarrassment. This might stem from the first time I had to make a speech in school and we had to choose a topic. I didn't really know about much, so I told my teacher I was thinking of talking about stammering. She thought it was a brilliant idea. I was obviously really nervous, but most people knew nothing about the condition, so it was educational. I sat down before the Q&A at the end because I was so nervous, but people were genuinely interested so I answered from my seat, and credit to a bunch of 14-15 year olds, no-one laughed or mocked me. Being open about it reduces stigma and shame.
