I swore off speech therapy for life after doing an intensive course in 2010 which seriously messed up my mental health, gave me various avoidance behaviours and feelings of shame common to stuttering I'd managed to dodge until then, and screwed with how my stutter presented (ex: various bits of the technique they taught like low volume and lack of pressure at the start of a word deserted and went over to the enemy to show up as part of my stuttering symptoms). It took me years to undo some of the damage and my stutter is still weird, like how I stutter in the middle of some words. I generally caution people to be *really* sure they know what they're doing before they seek out speech therapy. :/
