I believe it. I’ve met plenty of stutterers—professors, waiters, lawyers, students, etc. Heck, there are three in my family. During World War II, both the king and the prime minister of England were stutterers. What are the odds? I think maybe you’re misunderstanding how statistics work. Saying that 1% of the population stutters doesn’t mean that 1% of the people you meet will be stutterers. None of us encounters a perfectly random sampling of humanity when we walk out the door each day. And stutterers don’t wear special badges to assist with surveying.
