Hi there, I'm a fellow undergrad student with an average stutter. I haven't seen the Stutterer (although it's on my going-to-watch-soon list), but i can answer the personal questions. 1. Nobody has ever ostracised me that I can remember, people are normally patient. I've found that people only tend to make a big deal of it if you do, if that makes sense. If you just continue talking like nothing happened people tend to overlook it. The most I've gotten is a few weird or confused looks, or even sometimes pity if you show that your stutter is getting to you. 2. I'd like to be treated just like everyone else, if people try and finish my sentences etc it makes me feel worse. As for everyone else, simply increasing public awareness of the problem would be great. People sometimes tell me to just 'relax' or even think I have some kind of mental issue.People go to great lengths to hide their stutters (me included) which tends to make the whole problem much worse, and a general public acceptance would most likely reduce a lot of the pressure. If you have any more questions i'm happy to answer (on here or via message) :)
