Stuttering is a neurological problem likely with an emotional/anxiety overlay that develops “after the egg has been laid.” What came first: the chicken or the egg? The stuttering chicken came first and it’s a wiring issue in the brain… then the emotional “stuff.” There are many conditions that reduce stuttering and most of them all boil down to a change in speech prosody. I describe prosody as the “sing-songyness” of speech. When speech prosody is increased stuttering improves. This is why when you’re speaking to a baby or your pet cat, or singing, or reciting the pledge of allegiance with others, or numerous other conditions… your speech gets better. The people reactions and feelings that you’ve endured since childhood negatively creates the emotional turmoil that most PWS develop.
