I work with kids too. And it’s always ,” why did you move your mouth like that, why do you talk like that,” or they just straight up mock me. I always try to explain that it’s just a disability in a way. Like if you see a guy in a wheel chair are you gonna laugh at him? Because it’s disabling to that person. I can tell it will click with some of them, but the others still don’t quite understand how a person can speak that way and how other people are different. It’s funny tho because they are just kids. Like I was the first person in their lives they are having this experience with. Then when they go in in their lives and meet someone else who stutters they’ll understand and show respect towards it. The kids I work with, they know I stutter, that’s just how I talk🤷🏽, and I like how patient they’ve become with me. I realized it unconsciously makes them pay attention to what I am saying now. It’s like they can tell what I’m about to say now just by a certain sound or repetition that happens when I try to say what I have to say. Just be open about it. Because they are going to ask. And they won’t see you any different.
