You know this type of thing has happened to me a number of times. Here is something that I realized that may help you: no matter how bad you think it affected other people’s view of you, IT IS ALWAYS WORSE FOR YOU. For other people, the stutter “event” matters WAY less. The best strategy to overcome this is to literally ignore it, and act like it didn’t happen, open up to the potential friends. They may still not become your best friends, but make sure if the relationships fizzle out, it is not for lack of trying. Never give up! It sounds cheesy, but I have seen from experience that pushing through the mind-breaking humiliation is so rewarding, and you will realize that it was never that bad in the first place. The stuttering is not even your fault.
