I don't think there's misinformation per se. It might be a different in interpretation to what the OP is experiencing, but I was just giving my 2c on what it seemed like to me. The OP says he has avoidance behaviors. Overt stutters generally don't do that. Covert stutters generally try everything in their power to appear as none-stutters. He's consciously making effort to reduce his stutter (or at least hide it as far as he's concerned). I think you misunderstood me. I was saying given the context about him blocking and trying to change his speech patterns that he's well aware of his stutter and trying to minimize it. That's behavior of a covert stutterer. I know both stuttering types have repetition, prolongation and blocks. I am one of them. I'm talking about his feelings of his stutter and how he views himself. "I've recently started a new job, and because nobody there knows I stutter " - exactly what I had to go through with my job. Unless you absolutely never speak, only a covert stutterer can have a job and hide it. An overt stutter can't even make this claim. Coworkers know really soon that you stutter. A covert stutterer finds ways to avoid putting herself into a position where she would stutter openly.
